COHORS I FIDA VARDULLORUM EQUITATA
Auxiliary units, such as Cohors I Vardullorum, make up the non-citizen segment of the Roman army. They provide an opportunity for slaves newly freed from attending their masters to fight in the name of Rome, eventually earning their citizenship through military service.
The Vardulli cohort were raised in the province of Hispania during the reign of Claudius, and were first recorded in Britannia in the year 98 AD. During the 140s and 150s AD the unit provided the garrison during the occupation of the Antonine Wall.
The unit in its current form arrived in Caledonia in the year 184 AD, establishing their base just north of Corstopitum and building it into an impressive military campus. It is headed by long-serving Prefect Publicola, and has earned itself a distinguished reputation in the region under his command.
LEGIO XXVI PRIMORIS VALLO
Legio XXVI were formed in Caledonia in the Year 189 AD by Legate Glorious, setting up its home on the Vardulli campus with the primary aim of shielding Corstopitum from barbarian attacks.
The legions are the major fighting force of the Roman army, made up only of full Roman citizens. They are an elite and well-trained fighting force, issued with only the finest of armour and weaponry at the disposal of the Empire. Legio XXVI is thought to contain some of the most accomplished fighters currently in Caledonia.
Legate Columbus is currently in charge of this unit, a feared combatant and astute military commander.
HOUSE FIDELIUM VARDULLORUM
The Vicus settlement of the Fidelium Vardullorum was formed later in the Year 189 by Patron Gratus, a former Legate who represented the Empire in the Magistracy of Corstopitum. It was established just south of the Vardulli campus near the Corstopitum border.
Unattended slaves not wishing to enlist in military service may join this household as an alternate path towards freedom, citizenship and eventually a distinguished place in Roman society under the sponsorship of the Fidelium Vardullorum. The house itself prioritises building and crafting, whatever your particular interest or area of expertise may be.
Patron Nectardius is the head of the household, following the death of Gratus in the Corstopitum riots of Year 190.
